Pontus Hultén was one of the major museum directors, nationally and internationally, in his time. He built up important art institutions, primarily Moderna Museet Stockholm, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and Palazzo Grassi, Venice.
This is the first book on the Swedish museum director Pontus Hultén (1924-2006) written by Swedish artist and writer Andreas Gedin. He made Moderna museet in Stockholm to one of the most important institution for contemporary art and introduced artists like Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp and Robert Rauschenberg. He was later the first artistic director at Centre Pompidou in Paris and much more. The book is concentrated on the 50's and the 60's and curatorial practice of Hultén. The giant woman She a Cathedral,by Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely and P O Ultvedt installed 1966 at Moderna museet is in focus of this research project.
