Often, in the Småland countryside, you don’t know how large an area the place name on the sign along the forest road actually refers to, or which of the houses and farms it encompasses. Agnetaryd, a clearing, oh right. A few scattered houses, a farm or two. But the house way over there by the edge of the forest—is that Agnetaryd too? A boulder in the field. Do cows graze here in the summer? Questions among many.

Ofta på smålänska landsbygden vet man inte hur stort område, vilken av husen och gårdarna som omfattas av ortsnamnet som skylten längs skogsvägen annonserar. Agnetaryd, en glänta, jaha. Några hus utspridda, en gård ellöer två. Men huset längst där borta mot skogsbrynet – är det också Agnetaryd? En stenbumbling på gärde. Går det kor här om sommaren? Frågor bland många.
