In every family, there are mysteries and traumas that have not been resolved, and the burden is therefore often, unconsciously, carried by the next generation. Can there be reconciliation and relief?

Now It's Beautiful is the result of a years-long process of searching—both artistically and personally. Later in life, photographer Ewa Stackelberg has dared to imagine herself as the child who has the power to heal the wounds of childhood and even repair the damage of previous generations.

Ewa Stackelberg engages in a kind of metaphysical genealogy through words and images. She partly uses old photographs in which parents, relatives, places, and those long since deceased appear as narrative fragments. Archetypes such as the mother, the father, and the sibling take form. The secrets of the family are rearranged. The book’s evocative photograms (photographs without a camera) are presented in image series accompanied by a text for each, together forming a charged narrative. This is her third book featuring photograms.

Ewa Stackelberg works within the tradition of the Swedish photo book. She made her artistic breakthrough with the book Story for the Living (Journal), which was awarded the Swedish Photo Book Prize in 2001. Since then, she has developed experimental photography, held many exhibitions, and produced several photo books.

Nu är det vackert är resultatet av en flerårig process av sökande, både konstnärligt och mänskligt. Sent kommen i livet har fotografen Ewa Stackelberg vågat leka att hon är barnet som har makt att läka barndomens sår och även reparera tidigare generationers skador. Ewa Stackelberg arbetar med en slags metafysisk släktforskning i ord och bild. Hon har delvis använt gamla fotografier, där föräldrar, släkt, platser och de sedan länge döda utgör berättande fragment. Arketyper som modern, fadern och syskonet tar gestalt. Det flyttas om bland familjehemligheterna. Bokens suggestiva fotogram (fotografi utan kamera) presenteras i bildserier med en text för varje, vilka tillsammans skapar en laddad berättelse. Detta är hennes tredje bok med fotogram.

Ewa Stackelberg arbetar inom svensk fotobokstradition. Hon slog igenom som konstnär med boken Berättelse för levande (Journal), vilken tilldelades Svenska Fotobokspriset 2001. Hon har sedan dess utvecklat experimentell fotografi, haft många utställningar och gjort ett flertal fotoböcker.
