Material-based investigations from Research Lab CRAFT 2026 at Konstfack

    From the publisher:
What is closest to us is not necessarily what we understand. In STRATA, eight artists from Konstfack’s Research Lab CRAFT! (2025–2026) take the idea of digging where you stand as a point of departure, exploring how lived experience, embodied knowledge and material practices can become sites of artistic inquiry.

What can a mountain tell us about a moving body? How might a ceramic construction give form to the struggle to speak? STRATA moves between Karelian spells and speculative worlds, tactile explorations of craft beyond sight, altered experiences of time after illness, a woven rug exploring memory and loss, and the translation of cultural knowledge into edible materials. It also asks what becomes of a garment when it is no longer intended to dress a body. STRATA takes its name from the layers that accumulate over time, reflecting how experience, memory and material knowledge build upon one another.

Designed by Hai Fang Hu, STRATA features silkscreen-printed greyboard covers and an exposed, gradient-coloured spine with visible black stitching.
