Henrik Nygren Design: Crossroads. Collaborations. Short Comings

A different kind of retrospective There's no summery. There's no chronology and there are no finished projects to look at. Instead Henrik Nygren -- one of Scandinavia's leading art directors and graphic designers -- offers an intriguing, random flow of 100 images: artworks, drawings, illustrations, sketches and photographs. Additionally, the publication includes 30 short texts written by Lars Forsberg. From the publisher: After thirty years in the design business, art director and graphic designer Henrik Nygren felt it was time for a look back at the time that had passed. He took stock of all the productions created for his company’s clients from 1991 to 2021, including exhibition designs, catalogues, films, brand identities, posters, corporate presentations, magazines, shopping bags, websites, façade ornamentation, postcards, publications, etc. He collected more or less thought-provoking crossroads, thrilling collaborations and stinging shortcomings in a publication. “Expectations exist to be crushed. For a while, he was even thinking of making a film. (In which case, the title suggests three films, but that’s an unintentional red herring.) The script and the voiceover would be based on audio recordings he made himself, alone with a microphone in the family’s summer cottage on Gotland one Indian summer weekend in September 2021. At the time, he’d been active as art director and graphic designer in Stockholm for exactly thirty years.
