    Article no.: 9789189603561

Reprint of the 2018 edition The birth of Swedish modernism An extensive reference on the beginning and development of modernism in Sweden. The Stockholm exhibition in 1930 was an important manifestation of the new movement in architecture, design, art and crafts. Swedish modern is a form of modernism that embraced traditional features, materials and motifs, regional or national ones. The aesthetics were established in the 1930s - at the same time as the modernization of Sweden entered a new, more intensive phase. People moved to the cities which led to an extensive urban expansion. Housing issues became increasingly prominent in the political and general debate, as did design and home furnishings. The desire to improve, beautify and simplify life were important elements of the spirit of the times. Both beauty and housing would be for everyone. “Swedish Modern” consists of about 800 images showing architecture and decorations, furniture and decor, crafts and exhibitions.
